Sanitizon
A hypochlorous acid (HOCl) based vaginal antiseptic douche, formulated to help reduce microbial load while respecting the vagina's natural pH and flora.

About Sanitizon
What is Sanitizon?
Vaginitis is one of the most common gynaecological conditions and may present with symptoms such as abnormal discharge, odour, irritation, burning, or itching. Sanitizon is formulated to help relieve symptoms associated with vaginal infections and support the vagina’s natural defence mechanisms, promoting comfort and hygiene.

Mechanism
How it works
Once applied, hypochlorous acid acts on multiple cellular targets within pathogens, including cell membranes, proteins, and genetic material, helping to reduce microbial load. This antimicrobial activity is designed to support vaginal hygiene while helping maintain the vagina’s natural pH balance.
Antibacterial
Demonstrates antimicrobial activity against a broad range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Gardnerella vaginalis, a key bacterial species associated with bacterial vaginosis.
Antifungal
Demonstrates antifungal activity against Candida albicans, the leading cause of vulvovaginal candidiasis, as well as other fungal species such as Aspergillus niger.
Antiviral
Demonstrates antiviral activity against both enveloped and non-enveloped viruses, including herpes simplex virus (HSV), a common cause of genital viral infection.

Applications
Recommended applications
Sanitizon cleanses and refreshes the vaginal area after sexual intercourse and at the end of the menstrual cycle, and can help guard against secondary infection after swimming in pools or the sea.
Vaginal disinfection after menstruation and intercourse
Helps maintain normal vaginal pH without aggravating dryness, especially at menopause
Eases pain, itching, burning, and inflammation from infection
Eliminates unpleasant odour and abnormal discharge
Supports the vagina's own self-cleansing action
May reduce reliance on oral or topical antibiotics
Supports urogenital hygiene and helps prevent ascending UTIs
Alcohol-free, allergen-free, no rinsing needed after use
Clinical use
Also used in healthcare settings for vaginal preparation before surgery, childbirth, hysterectomy, and transvaginal procedures such as hysterosalpingography (HSG), and for vaginal disinfection before paraclinical exams including transvaginal ultrasound (TVS).
Vaginal Flora & Why HOCl
A balance worth protecting
The vagina hosts a diverse and dynamic microbial community. DNA sequencing studies have shown that the vaginal microbiome contains a wide range of bacterial species. In a healthy state, this ecosystem is typically dominated by Lactobacillus species, which help maintain an acidic environment, with a pH of approximately 3.8–4.5 during the reproductive years. This acidic environment plays an important role in limiting the growth of potentially harmful microorganisms.
The composition of the vaginal microbiome can change throughout different life stages and in response to physiological factors. When this balance is disrupted, protective lactobacilli may decline, increasing susceptibility to bacterial, fungal, and viral infections.
Hypochlorous acid is a molecule naturally produced by the body’s immune cells as part of the innate defence against invading microorganisms. Sanitizon is formulated with stabilised hypochlorous acid and is designed to work in harmony with the vagina’s physiological environment, helping reduce microbial burden while supporting the natural balance of the vaginal ecosystem.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is vaginal douching and how is Sanitizon used?
The vaginal environment contains a complex microbiome that is typically dominated by beneficial Lactobacillus species, which help maintain an acidic pH. Sanitizon is a pH-balanced vaginal antiseptic douche formulated with stabilized hypochlorous acid (HOCl). Using its dedicated applicator, the solution is delivered into the vaginal canal, where it helps cleanse the mucosal surfaces and reduce microbial burden while supporting the natural vaginal environment.
What is the antimicrobial mechanism of Hypochlorous Acid (HOCl) in Sanitizon?
Hypochlorous Acid (HOCl) is a molecule naturally produced by human white blood cells as part of the body’s innate immune response to invading microorganisms. HOCl acts on multiple microbial targets, including cell membranes, proteins, and genetic material. Sanitizon utilizes stabilized HOCl to provide broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against bacteria, fungi, and viruses while remaining compatible with mucosal tissues when used as directed.
How does Sanitizon differ from standard intimate washes?
Most intimate washes are designed primarily for external cleansing of the intimate area. Sanitizon is a vaginal antiseptic douche formulated for internal application using a dedicated applicator. In addition to cleansing, it provides antimicrobial activity through stabilized hypochlorous acid (HOCl), helping reduce microbial burden within the vaginal canal.
How does Sanitizon differ from probiotic-based products?
Sanitizon and vaginal probiotics serve different but potentially complementary purposes. Vaginal probiotics are intended to support the growth and maintenance of beneficial microorganisms, particularly Lactobacillus species, over time. Sanitizon, by contrast, is formulated with stabilized hypochlorous acid (HOCl) and is intended to provide immediate cleansing and antimicrobial activity within the vaginal canal.
Does Sanitizon cause mucosal irritation or allergic reactions?
Sanitizon is a water-based formulation free from alcohol, fragrances, and many common irritants used in personal care products. Biocompatibility and safety evaluations have demonstrated good compatibility with mucosal tissues when used according to the instructions for use. As with any healthcare product, individual sensitivities may vary.
Does douching with Sanitizon alter the natural vaginal pH?
Sanitizon is formulated within the physiological acidic pH range of the healthy vaginal environment. Its formulation is designed to support the vagina’s natural pH balance while providing cleansing and antimicrobial activity.
How is Sanitizon administered, and is it suitable for home use?
Yes. Sanitizon is designed for use in both professional healthcare settings and at home. In clinical settings, it may be administered by healthcare professionals. For personal use, it can be comfortably self-administered while standing or reclining.
The water-based, colourless formulation allows any excess solution to drain naturally after use, with no need for additional rinsing or flushing.
